Udta Punjab

I was really looking forward to seeing Udta Punjab. It’s the closest I’ve seen so far to Alia Bhaat’s performance in Highway, one of my all time favorites. I was not disappointed. Udta Punjab was just so real about drugs and about addiction. It’s ugly and messy. And I think this message has global appeal. Seeing it in the context of rural india without having to drown out the message with all the urban craziness really propelled the seriousness of the situations the characters were encountering

Movie-wise, the transition between the 3 sub-stories was so perfectly done. I loved the transitions. I don’t think I’ve seen any American movies pull off sub-story transitions so well! The cast were all incredible and I wouldn’t change a thing…

Udta Punjab has some eerie, some intense and some disgusting scenes - you really should know what you’re getting into. It’s not for the faint at heart. It’s the first movie I’d rate as 5 stars without recommending because it’s not fun, it’s serious. The world needs more of that.
