Review ★★★★★

Ever since I saw the cover for Highway, I knew I had to see it. It’s really a twisted, dark, tense, and uncomfortable film. But I don’t say any of those things as insults - it was just incredibly well done. It’s the story of the darkness and pain of the shadow of our lives and how they come back to haunt us and who we are. But it’s also the story of how easily people can lose their judgement in crazy circumstances, or how unintended means to our hearts desires can lead to this perverted joy. I know I’m getting deep here on my silly Bollywood review site, but Highway was a special movie for me.

It really hits home to me for a few reasons… I’ve got a pretty weird fear of roads from some horrifying past experiences. And just seeing how dangerous the characters saw the darkness. The film was shot in many beautiful locations which just frame the story in this perfect contrast. I’ve only seen Alia Bhatt in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania before, and while she did well there, I was shocked to see how she stole the show in Highway - the entire movie is nearly set up as her monologue and how her own perceptions and emotions about an out of control story go.

This movie does end as a tragedy, but you really should watch it.
