For reasons that will eventually make sense, I’ve compiled a list of helpful terms to know in Indian English, and a few terms in Hindi too!
Like a shower, but with a sponge.
A cousin, male friend, or actual brother
Cubicle or Office
Cut the Call
Do the Needful
It’s not clear. I think customer support agents for Indians do things for their customers when they _cut the call_, where as customer service agents in the west tend to immediately forget about customer needs when ending a call.
A Sink with Hot Water
Facebook. Same number of syllables but appeals to the Indian love of ancronyms.
Untranslatable bureaucracy tool. It's like 3-4 levels above what westerners would call notarization. It's really important to get anything done.
A Cabinet or wardrobe
Means anything from "I understand" to "ok" to "good" to "really?" (Like English speakers say "yeah")
Mix of things
Person who is associated with a thing, generally a seller.
